The Valence

Privacy Policy — Last updated: July 25, 2026

Privacy First

The Valence is designed with privacy at its core. Most recovery data is stored locally on your device. When you use AI-powered features, selected data is sent for processing as described below. We also keep a minimal account record and, as of this update, collect advertising-measurement data so we can understand which of our own ad campaigns bring users to the app. This policy describes what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

Data Controller

The data controller responsible for your data is:

Furkan Dogan
Email: info@thevalence.app

Data Storage

Most personal data — including journal entries, voice memos, mood logs, reason wall items, quiz answers, coach conversations, recovery progress, and app settings — is stored locally on your device using on-device persistence.

We maintain a minimal server-side account record (Google Firebase, using an anonymous identifier) containing: your first name if you entered one, your app language, your subscription/trial status, and basic activity timestamps used to schedule reminders. Your recovery content itself — journals, chats, voice memos, quiz answers — is not stored in this record.

AI-Powered Features and Data Processing

The Valence uses Google's Gemini API to provide the following AI-powered features: AI Mentor, Journal AI Insight, Voice Analysis, Daily Protocol, and Command Center (Weekly Report).

When you use any of these features, the following categories of data may be sent to Google Gemini for processing:

AI requests are routed through Cloudflare Workers and processed by Google Gemini. Valence does not store AI inputs in its own app database.

How each AI feature uses your data

AI Mentor

When you send messages to the AI Mentor, your message text and recent conversation context are sent to Google's Gemini API. The AI generates a response based on your message and your current recovery context (such as your no-contact day count, stability score, and mood). Your name may be included in the request to personalize coaching.

Journal AI Insight

When you request an AI analysis of a journal entry, the text content of that specific entry, along with previous entries for comparison, is sent to Google's Gemini API for emotional pattern analysis. The AI returns a structured analysis (emotional pattern, risk assessment, insight, and suggested action) which is then stored locally on your device alongside the entry.

Voice Analysis

When you record a voice memo and the AI analysis runs, the audio recording is sent to Google's Gemini API for transcription and emotional analysis. The resulting transcript, mood assessment, and risk score are stored locally on your device. A visible recording indicator is displayed at all times during voice recording.

Daily Protocol

When you use the Daily Protocol's AI features, recovery context (such as your mood, stability score, streak, check-in data, and recent activity statistics) is sent to Google's Gemini API for personalized coach guidance. Results are cached locally on your device.

Command Center (Weekly Report)

When you generate an AI report in the Command Center, aggregated recovery data (such as mood patterns, check-in counts, urge levels, SOS usage, no-contact breach count, journal/voice/article counts, and active focus) is sent to Google's Gemini API. Results are cached locally on your device.

All AI processing is performed by Google's Gemini API. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's API Terms of Service and their Privacy Policy.

User Consent

A one-time AI Data Sharing consent dialog is shown before the first use of any AI-powered feature. The dialog discloses which AI features send data, what categories of data may be sent, and that data is routed through Cloudflare Workers and processed by Google Gemini.

You must tap "Allow AI Processing" to use AI features. If you tap "Not Now," no data is sent and AI features remain disabled. Non-AI features (journaling, no-contact tracking, mood logging, articles) continue to work fully.

You can manage your AI data sharing preference at any time from the Settings screen within the app.

Onboarding Quiz Data

During onboarding, you complete a personalization quiz about your breakup situation (who initiated, reason, your reaction, contact status, and recovery goals). This data is stored locally on your device and is used to:

Quiz answers are never sent to any server independently, and they are never shared with advertising partners. They are included as part of the AI coaching context only when you actively use AI features, under the same consent and data processing terms described above.

Voice Recordings

The Valence includes a voice recording feature for personal voice memos. In accordance with applicable requirements:

Subscriptions

The Valence offers optional premium subscriptions managed through Apple's App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat. When you subscribe:

Free Trial

Subscription plans may include a free introductory trial (currently 3 days) provided through Apple's or Google's subscription systems; trial eligibility is tracked per Apple ID / Google account. No payment information is collected by us. Free users receive a limited number of AI credits per week.

Advertising Measurement (AppsFlyer & TikTok)

We advertise The Valence on platforms such as TikTok. To understand which of our own campaigns bring users to the app, we use AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement partner. For this purpose, the following data may be collected and shared with AppsFlyer and, in aggregated or matched form, with the advertising platform (e.g., TikTok):

This data is used solely to measure and optimize our own advertising. We never share your journal entries, coach conversations, voice recordings, screenshots, or quiz answers with advertising partners.

Your choices: On iOS, the system tracking prompt lets you decline — if you do, the IDFA is not used, and Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork framework provides only aggregate campaign results. You can change this choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android, you can reset or delete your Advertising ID in device Settings → Google → Ads.

AppsFlyer's handling of this data is described in the AppsFlyer Privacy Policy, and TikTok's in the TikTok for Business Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Services

The Valence uses the following third-party services:

What We Do NOT Do

We want to be explicit about what we do not do:

Data Retention and Deletion

Since most data is stored locally on your device:

Data Deletion Requests

You can delete your data in two ways:

Subscription and billing records are held by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat under their own retention policies. AI content (chat messages, screenshots, voice recordings) is processed in real time and is not stored on our servers.

Data Security

All data stored on your device benefits from the security protections provided by your device's operating system, including device encryption. Communications with external APIs use HTTPS encryption. We recommend that you protect your device with a passcode or biometric authentication to further secure your data.

Children

The Valence is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, please contact us.

Your Rights (KVKK / GDPR)

If you are located in Turkey or the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

Data Breach Notification

In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting any user data processed through our services, we will notify affected users in accordance with applicable law by updating this privacy policy and, where possible, through in-app notification.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
